SKUs (Stock Keeping Unit)

SKUs, or Stock Keeping Units, are used to identify products. Every different product should have a  unique SKU - including each variant of a product group.

SKUs in Brightpearl are used for supporting channel integrations, such as eBay, Amazon, Magento, Shopify and Bigcommerce. In order to effectively use these integrations, SKUs for the same products will need to match across each system.

SKUs may or may not have a meaning. For example, a range of t-shirts that come in different colors and sizes can all have the same identifying number with additional letters to identify the exact color and size, like "T006678_R_S" for red small, where the first part of the number is simply a reference for the range of t-shirts.

Allowed characters:

  • 0-9
  • A-Z (standard alphabet, uppercase or lowercase)
  • " " Space
  • "-" Hyphen
  • "_" Underscore
  • "/" Forward slash

SKUs have a maximum character length of 32.

Global Trade Identification Numbers (GTINs)

It is also possible to use Brightpearl to generate GTINs, which can then be used as SKUs.
