When you add new products to your range, you need to complete a few steps before you can start selling them.
Decide on a SKU
Since the SKU will be used to link the products across all your software systems, it's essential that every variation of a product has its own unique SKU. If you enter your product into Brightpearl first, you'll be warned if you have already used that SKU.
Add your products to Brightpearl
Important : It's best practice to add new products to Brightpearl before they are available for sale on your sales channels, so that Brightpearl is ready to create orders properly as soon as the first sale arrives. If a sale is created on an ecommerce channel and then downloaded without the product existing in Brightpearl, a miscellaneous non-stock item will be put on the order and you'll have to make a manual correction.
It's also good to add at least basic information about a product into Brightpearl very early on, so that you can place Purchase Orders for it.
If your new items are from a new supplier, vendor or brand, add those to Brightpearl first so you can select them from the drop-down menus when creating a product.
If you only have a few products to add, create them manually using the Products > New product page.
If your products have variations like size or color, Brightpearl calls that a product group. Add the basic information for the product group manually using the new product screen (no need for a SKU at this point), and then search for your product on the product list. From the actions menu, choose to Create variants. Once all the variants have been created, you can add SKUs.

Add your products to your sales channels
You can now add items to your sales channels either by importing files or by entering them manually. Brightpearl does not 'publish' products to channels, it can only update existing product inventory and price where there's a matching SKU on the channel.
The only data that must be exactly the same in the channel is the SKU. When this item is sold online, it will be matched with the correct item in Brightpearl and added to a new Sales Order for that channel.
Link products with sales channels
Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, EKM
There is no need to manually connect products in Brightpearl to the same product in your sales channel. When the item is first sold on the channel, Brightpearl adds the correct item to the downloaded order using an exact SKU match.
eBay and Amazon
For these channels, you need to link your listings to Brightpearl products before the first sale.
If a product is created in Brightpearl with the same SKU as a listing, the link can be made automatically when the listing is first downloaded into Brightpearl.
Create products from sales channels data
If you have products on your sales channels already, you can import those products into Brightpearl. The process varies slightly by sales channel - so have a look at the relevant channel documentation or training course.
As a general rule, sales channels do not store full product information (such as cost prices, product type, category, brand) so you'll have to edit the product information in Brightpearl once it's been created / imported.
If a product is created from a listing, or imported from a channel, the item will be linked automatically so that inventory levels are updated on the channel.

View the listings screen in Brightpearl and select listings to create products from.
Shopify, Magento and BigCommerce
Use the product import tools provided with the integration app.
So far you've created a product - but that's only a description of the item. Inventory is how many of that item you have at the moment, and information about where it's stored. Most businesses add inventory by placing a Purchase Order with a supplier, and then receiving inventory against that PO.
Before you add inventory, it's best practice to add cost prices to your products, so that your inventory asset value is correct. The cost price is what you pay for the item, without any tax or VAT.
If your sales channel integrations are set up to do so, adding inventory of a product into Brightpearl will also update the sales channel.
