Moving to a new Brightpearl server (USA)

If you have been contacted and informed that your Brightpearl account will be moving to a new and improved server, then here are the things you will need to consider and update to ensure there is no disruption to your service.

Check your email SPF (Sender Policy Framework)

SPF records allow a domain/website owner to authorize certain mail servers or IP addresses to send email on your behalf. Astonishingly, any correctly configured mail server can send email on anyone's behalf, which is why you may have experienced spammers hijacking your own email address to send spam from your own email.

Here's where SPF records come in. Increasingly, mail servers are checking that the mail server sending the email is allowed to do so. If you don't have an SPF record you may find that your emails get put in the spam folder or your emails are not received. They allow you to specify which servers can legitimately send email on your behalf. Your Brightpearl account sends email for password notifications, invoices, quotes, general emails, small mail-merges and much more, which means that you should create an SPF record to authorize the Brightpearl mail server to send email on your behalf.

You will need to configure a SPF record in your email administrator settings using the following text detail:

  • The text detail you need is: mydomain.com IN TXT 3600 "v=spf1 mx include:smtp.thisispearl.com ~all"
  • The IP addresses you need haven't changed, but in case you want to check:
USE USW
IP for Brightpearl mail server: 092.52.111.164 092.52.111.164
Mail server IP to white list: 107.21.235.159 184.72.33.176

Update your MS Exchange IPs

If you have connected your Microsoft Exchange server to Brightpearl so that emails sent from Brightpearl pass via the SMPT you will need to ensure that your new IP address is white listed in your Exchange account. To do this you will need the administrator log in to your Exchange account.
